s the chris christie magic ams. a lot of people said, i do like him but more important they say, he's like me. a blue collar guy who came from, he's very caring. and so i think that people really want somebody who they feel gets them and connects with them. that's not -- authenticity. it's got to be message, messenger, and delivery. democrats, it's not -- the delivery is not just a style, but a system. where am i putting the information. big screen, little screen, your ear, your eye. delivery is not a style, should i wear this tie. it's a system. and that also, you've got to have them all. message, messenger, aened delivery. but voters are more about themes than washington-base issues. more about affordability than the debt. more about freedom than health care reform. there are sur fwat voters everywhere. if you try to put somebody in a little box based on gender, race, age, whether you have kids at home, that person may say, i'm all right but i'm worried about the family across the street or the kid down the street

thatan is chris christie's national future. if he wins this election bit margin the polls show, that is a big, big feather in his cap as a potential republican presidential candidate who will be able to say, look i governed as a conservative in blue state. got reelected overwhelmingly. the virginia race is more complicated there is not a dominant personality involved. two candidates, democrat, terry mcauliffe, and ken cuccinelli very, very flawed in their own right. the reason why this is important race, we've seen over the last few years the state of virginia go from being a pretty solidly republican state in federal elections, prettany conservative state, even state elections to a real swing state and now maybe, what we could be seeing today is that virginia might even be leaning a a little bit to the democrats now. this is an off-year election. it was supposed to favor republicans. virginia has historically always elect ad governor from the opposite party that controls the white house. and if polling holds it seems like that

i want to begin by thanking gorchlegovernor christie for prg me with this incredible opportunity. our professional relationship and friendship began more than 20 years ago as young lawyers working together in a new jersey law firm. we had our entire careers ahead of us. if someone had suggested to me back then that one day chris christie would be governor, i wouldn't have been surprised. i would, however, have dismissed out of hand any suggestion that i might someday be the new jersey attorney general, let alone a member of the united states senate. to have served here representing the people of new jersey has to rank as the greatest honor of my professional life. i will always be grateful to governor christie for the confidence he has shown in me by appointing me, and i will always be thankful for the wonderful opportunities he has given me time and again to serve in public life. i also want to thank my colleagues in the senate from both sides of the aisle who have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, to help me navigate the sometimes confusing rules and traditions of t
